THE LEONBERGER DOG

The Leonberger Dog was developed in Germany during the 1840's.  Bred from a pairing
of a Newfoundland and St. Bernard.  It is known for its laid back approach to life,  stable     temperament, and is excellent with children.

Two world wars brought the dog to the edge of extinction.  No more than eight existed
at the end of World War II.

They are a large dog, approx 28 3/4 - 32 inches at the shoulder, weighting up to
150 pounds.  Their coat is a lion gold color with a black shawl around the neck.

The legitimacy of the Russian Local stamps is open to debate.
Most of them can only be described as pretty labels.  Most were
printed either in England or Lithuania.  They are not recognized as
valid for postage by the Universal Postal Union.

  Collectors should be wary.
